Female Pattern Baldness

It is not that men are only bound to have baldness. Females also lose hair but not that much as that of males. Just like the male pattern baldness, there is female pattern baldness or alopecia. This is a condition where the hairs start to fall out in larger amounts.

Female pattern baldness ranges from thinned hair areas to entirely bald patches. Unlike the male pattern baldness, the female pattern baldness happens on the crown and sides and does not happen on the back side.

There are many reasons for female pattern baldness. One of the main reasons that have been attributed to female pattern baldness is genetics. A female who has women members in her with female pattern baldness is likely to develop this condition.

Apart from genetics, hormones also play an important part in female pattern baldness. This is one of the reasons why menopausal females suffer more from this condition.

Female pattern baldness cannot be noticed all of a sudden. It progresses very slowly and women can notice the loss of hair when combing. Normally the hair that is lost grows back but the hair does not grow in women who have female pattern baldness.

Though female pattern baldness cannot be prevented, the progression can at least be arrested in some manners. It is better to have a healthy diet containing vegetables, fruits and grains that help in preventing hair loss. One should also not expose the hair to more stress like using chemical products or use styling tools in the hair that could lead to more hair loss.

Though there is no complete cure for female pattern baldness, some medications that could be applied in the scalp or oral drugs could help in arresting the progression to some level. One more thing that has to be noted is that the medicines for male pattern baldness should not be used by females as it could be risky.
